About the podcast

This isn’t the first podcast I have created; in the mid-2000s, I had a weekly podcast called Sticks and String, which was about knitting. It ran for over 150 episodes and had over 2 million downloads. Making the show was a lot of fun and opened the doors to some wonderful opportunities in the knitting world.

About David

Hi, I’m an old bloke who never got the opportunity to learn the piano when I was growing up, and I’m not sure I would have had I been given the opportunity. Early this year (2024), I decided that it was time to give it a try; I have sufficient resources to get decent equipment and enough time to practice a reasonable amount. So here we are.

I grew up in Sydney, Australia, and currently live in the Blue Mountains to the west of the city. I attended Sydney University after finishing high school and have a Science Degree in Physics. While studying at uni, I found that I really enjoyed teaching, and so I have completed a Diploma of Education and a Master of Education since then.

I have worked as a Science Teacher since the mid-1980s at both private schools and in the Catholic school system, and despite it being almost forty years, I still enjoy classroom teaching every day (maybe not in the last period on a Friday, though).

Currently, I work full-time as a Science teacher at a really great high school in the Hawkesbury region to the northwest of Sydney. I am learning the piano partly self-taught, and partly with a teacher from the Penrith Con.
